Parade Rules and Regulations
Rules & Guidelines for participation
The parade begins at 11:00 AM sharp. Your entry/float must be in place and ready to go in the staging area no later than 10:30. The Traffic Marshals will be on hand to assist you in finding your spot and to answer any questions you may have.
If you are unable to attend and would like to have another group take your place, we will require notice no later than May 13, 2019. If there are substitutions without notice, that organization will be asked to leave.
If your entry is being judged, please line up at the staging area and have all your float participants in place by 9:30 AM. There will be awards given for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd places in each of the different divisions. Your entry/float must be complete and intact for judging. Please indicate on the entry form if you desire to have your entry judged.
The staging area is located on East Colorado Street between 12th Ave and Holly Street. There will be numbering along the roadway to help you with your staging location. Please enter the staging area from the east at Holly and Colorado. Horse trailers and trucks will be allowed to park in the vacant lot on the corner of Colorado and Fern. No horses or parking of trucks and trailers will be allowed in the high school parking lot.
Horse/Animal entries: if you desire to be at the front of the parade, please plan on having your own manure removal crew to pick up behind your horses/animals. If you are unable to provide this we will have to place your entry toward the end of the parade. This is due to the large amounts of manure that some groups have to walk through on the parade route. If you have any questions about this, please do not hesitate to call. We are happy to give ideas and clarification.
There will be absolutely NO access to Colorado Ave between Holly and 12th Ave after 10:30 AM, so please have your participants there early. Also, make prior arrangements for people/children on floats to be picked up at a location near, but not on Colorado. Please be sure parents of participating children have this information.
To ensure a safe parade, all participants who want to dispense candy must walk to the curb and hand candy to children on the sidewalks. The Exchange Club will not allow candy to be thrown from vehicles or horses. This is extremely critical for the safety of everyone involved in the parade and to ensure children do not put themselves in jeopardy when retrieving candy. Entrants not following this rule will be removed from the parade.
The parade needs to move at an even pace please keep up with the unit in front of you. When the unit in front of you moves, you should be moving with them. Allow only one car length between you and the unit ahead. This will require walking units to walk quickly enough to keep up. Small children may have a difficult time keeping up so please have them stay in or on the motorized units. Please think safety first and have plenty of water for walkers. Do not allow anyone to sit on the edge of your moving vehicle or trailer. Please instruct all of your participants to stay behind the wheels of trailers. Children under the age of 18 who are riding scooters or bicycles are required to wear a helmet.
As the parade will be televised, please write a detailed explanation of your entry on the form and put up an identifying sign on your float/entry! Please stay in order so the television crew announces you correctly. You will need to bring your staging number with you the morning of the parade and place it in the windshield of your vehicle, float or animals on the right hand side.
The parade committee reserves the right to remove any unit from the parade line. Any entries deemed to be in poor taste will not be allowed in the parade.
